João Pais Filipe (b. 1980) is a drummer/percussionist and sound sculptor from Porto. His career as a musician is
characterized by the approach to a wide range of styles and languages, in bands like Sektor 304, HHY & The Macumbas, Talea Jacta, Paisiel, Rafael Toral Space Quartet. Also played with Z'EV, Evan Parker, Fritz Hauser, Steve Hubback, among others.
He is also a Gong maker and Cymbalsmith.

From the first minutes of “Faca de Terra”, you can hear his characteristic style of playing the toms, upon which the rest of the group add layers of keys, guitars and vocals. The sound is heavier in the title track, the drums seem more march-like in the company of guitars, ethnic flutes and shoegaze voices; there is not so much of Pais’s characteristic motorik here. I've spun this endlessly since it arrived. Brilliant musicianship that creates a magical sound. I can't recommend this enough to fans of this band or anyone for that matter.
